Here’s a secret - growing up I was happiest when I was the 'the good girl', the ‘teacher’s pet’.
And this carried through to my corporate career. I wanted to please my bosses and be the 'good worker'. I was the dependable one that everyone relied on. I was a high-achiever and it felt good. But internal conflict was brewing.
At the time I thought being the ‘good dependable worker’ meant I needed to put everything I had into work. All of my attention, time and effort. I achieved some pretty cool things with this strategy. But I also ended up burning out. The protests of my body and spirit were muffled as I slogged through the challenges and achieved all that was asked of me. And I know I’m not the only one who has walked this path, in fact this might sound all too familiar to you.
So I’ve bundled up all the things I wished I had known as I fumbled around trying to escape burnout, so you can get on with enjoying life!
